Buy & sell

How do I buy or sell crypto in Cake Wallet?

Cake Wallet lets you buy and sell crypto with fiat money (like USD, EUR, or GBP) directly in the app, using the Buy button on the balance card in Cake's home screen. The purchase or sale itself is handled by third-party on-ramp and off-ramp providers built into Cake Wallet — for example Onramper, MoonPay, DFX, Robinhood Connect, and Kryptonim for buying and selling. Cake Wallet shows you the available providers and quotes; you pick one and complete the order with that provider.

The buy/sell experience is currently being reworked, so exact buttons and steps may change between app versions. This page focuses on what to expect and where to get help rather than a step-by-step walkthrough.

Cake Wallet is non-custodial and does not process payments itself. Buying and selling are provided by third parties, who set their own rates, fees, limits, supported regions, and verification requirements. Your crypto is delivered to (or sold from) your own wallet.

My purchase failed, is pending, or I paid but didn't receive crypto

Buy and sell orders are processed by the third-party provider you chose, not by Cake Wallet, so the provider is where the order's real status lives.

  • Check the confirmation email and order/receipt page from the provider (for example Onramper or MoonPay) for the current status.

  • Orders can take time. Card payments may need review, and delivery to your wallet waits for confirmations on the blockchain — a "pending" order often just needs a little longer.

  • Make sure your wallet is fully synchronized. Once the provider sends your crypto, it appears after it confirms on-chain. See Why are my funds not appearing?.

If the order shows complete on the provider's side but you still don't see your crypto — or the order is stuck or failed — contact Cake support with your order details (provider name, order/reference ID, amount, and your wallet address). We can look up the order and escalate it with the provider on your behalf, so you don't have to chase the provider alone.

Provider-specific contacts are also listed on the Buy support and Sell support pages.

Why do I have to complete KYC or identity verification?

The identity verification (KYC) step comes from the third-party buy/sell provider, not from Cake Wallet. Providers that convert between fiat and crypto are regulated and generally must verify their customers, so depending on the provider, amount, payment method, and your region, you may be asked for an email, a phone number, an ID document, or more.

Using Cake Wallet itself needs no account and no KYC — you can create a wallet and receive, send, and hold crypto without verifying your identity. Verification only applies when you use a fiat buy or sell provider. If you'd rather not verify, you can instead fund your wallet by receiving crypto from elsewhere, or use the in-app swap to trade between coins.

Buy or sell isn't available in my country

Availability depends on the third-party providers, and each one supports different countries, currencies, and payment methods. Some are region-locked — for example, DFX serves European customers and Robinhood Connect serves US customers.

If one provider isn't available where you are, check whether another provider is offered for your country and coin — the app may list several. Coverage also changes over time as providers update where they operate. If nothing is available, you can still fund your wallet by receiving crypto or by using the in-app swap.

I got a different amount, or the fees seem high

The price, exchange rate, and fees are set by the third-party provider, not by Cake Wallet. Your final amount reflects the provider's rate at the time the order settles, plus their fees — and, for delivery to your wallet, the blockchain network fee. It can differ from an earlier estimate, especially if the market moves between the quote and settlement.

Before confirming, review the quote the provider shows, including the rate and any fees. If a charge still looks wrong afterward, check the provider's receipt first, then contact Cake support with your order details and we'll help review it.
